The ESA has come out with it’s Essential Facts about the Computer and Video Game Industry documentation for 2014. Here’s a breakdown of some of the numbers found by the ESA:

– 59% of American households play video games

– 48% of those who do are female

– The average age of someone who plays games is 31

– Only 85% of parents are aware that there is a rating system for games (akin to movie ratings)

– Of the top 5 selling console games, four of them had a mature rating, while none of the top computer games had a mature rating

– Sales of physical copies of games are dropping, while digital copies sold have increased
